The Ambedkar Chamber welcomes Shubhasish Chakraborty to the Business and Affirmative Action Council (BAAC), acknowledging his exceptional work in community development, tribal empowerment, and lifelong commitment to inclusive nation-building.
Shubhasish Chakraborty is a distinguished social scientist, award-winning filmmaker, and literary artist with over 25 years of dedicated experience in community development and tribal empowerment. Currently serving as Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., he is a passionate advocate for inclusive rural transformation and cultural preservation.
An expert in tribal affairs, Shubhasish is internationally recognized for his grassroots innovation and holistic development models. As a TEDx speaker and guest speaker at the United Nations, he shares valuable insights on sustainable development, Individual Social Responsibility (ISR), and empowering marginalized communities. Reflecting his commitment, he has donated a significant portion of his salary for over a decade to uplift vulnerable populations.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to literary arts, Shubhasish received the National Fellowship Award for Outstanding Artist from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2006–2007). He is also the author of the best-selling book Anitya Tum, which was showcased at the World Book Fair 2023.
In a pioneering initiative, Shubhasish adopted Pandadih village in Ranchi’s Sonahatu block, transforming it into a beacon of rural progress aligned with the vision of Atma
Nirbhar Bharat. Under his leadership, the village became one of India’s first Corona-free communities, achieving 100% COVID-19 vaccination coverage.
A fervent cultural revivalist, he reintroduced the traditional Chhau dance into three rural schools, nurturing 25 young performers—including children as young as three—creating
one of the youngest ensembles of this heritage art form globally. His efforts to enhance educational access have impacted over 2,000 tribal children across Jharkhand through the distribution of more than 7,000 books. Additionally, his grassroots sports program for tribal girls received national acclaim, endorsed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as one
of India’s finest.
Shubhasish’s creative works include the critically acclaimed travelogue Travels Through Spaces of Orality, which documents life in India’s tribal heartlands, and the award-winning film Natok, showcased at 15 international film festivals and honored with nine awards.
