Government Reaffirms Commitment to MSME Growth, Digitisation and Women Entrepreneurship
- More than 50 API integrations enhance ease of doing business and policy precision
- Digitisation, single-window clearances and sustainability schemes driving MSME competitiveness
India’s MSME sector continues to demonstrate remarkable formalisation and inclusive growth, with over 7.28 crore Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered on the Udyam Registration Portal since its launch in July 2020. Significantly, 2.86 crore (Nearly 39%) of these enterprises are women-led, highlighting the growing role of women entrepreneurs in strengthening the country’s economic foundation. Through sustained policy support, digital transformation, and simplified compliance mechanisms, the Government of India is enabling MSMEs to access formal credit, government procurement opportunities, policy-linked incentives and technology-driven growth pathways, while reinforcing Ease of Doing Business across the sector.
The Government of India has reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector—widely regarded as the backbone of the Indian economy—through comprehensive digitisation, simplified regulatory frameworks, and targeted support for women-led and micro enterprises.

“Women-Led Enterprises Are Redefining India’s MSME Growth Story” – Ambedkar Chamber
Rusen Kumar, Founder and National President, Ambedkar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ambedkar Chamber), said, “Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are the backbone, pushing India towards global economic strength. The registration of over 7.28 crore MSMEs on the Udyam Portal marks a defining moment in India’s economic journey. What is truly encouraging is that nearly 39% of these enterprises are women-led, signalling a decisive shift towards inclusive entrepreneurship. Through digitisation, simplified compliance, and targeted support, the government is not just formalising businesses—it is empowering entrepreneurs, especially women, to access credit, markets, and government procurement. This momentum can transform MSMEs into a resilient and future-ready pillar of India’s economic growth.”

Udyam Portal: A Cornerstone of MSME Formalisation
The Udyam Registration Portal has emerged as a transformational platform for MSME formalisation. By integrating technology-driven registration and real-time data capture, the portal has significantly reduced entry barriers for enterprises, particularly those operating in rural and remote regions.
To further enhance efficiency and interoperability, the government has established over 50 API integrations with various ministries, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies. These integrations allow seamless data exchange, reduce documentation burdens, and ensure that MSMEs receive faster and more accurate access to services.
Crucially, the data generated through Udyam registration is being actively used to design evidence-based policies, improve scheme targeting, and enhance the overall efficacy of MSME-focused interventions.

Focus on Ease of Doing Business Through Digitisation
Addressing long-standing concerns raised by MSME stakeholders regarding procedural hurdles and compliance burdens, the government has undertaken a series of reforms aimed at improving Ease of Doing Business (EoDB).
These measures include:
- Digitisation of MSME programmes and services
- Simplification and rationalisation of procedures
- Introduction of single-window clearance mechanisms
- Reduction of physical interfaces and compliance duplication
Collectively, these reforms are designed to create a more enabling, transparent, and time-efficient ecosystem for enterprise growth.

Targeted Schemes for Financing, Sustainability and Market Access
The Ministry of MSME has rolled out several flagship initiatives to promote digitalisation, access to finance, sustainability, and competitiveness, including:
- MSME SAMBANDH – Facilitating MSME participation in government procurement
- MSE-GIFT Scheme – Promoting green investments and sustainable financing
- MSE-SPICE Scheme – Encouraging circular economy practices
- MSME Sustainable ZED Certification Scheme – Enhancing quality, environmental compliance and zero-defect manufacturing
- Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) – Supporting self-employment and entrepreneurship
- MSME SAMADHAAN – Addressing delayed payments to MSMEs
- Micro and Small Enterprises – Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) – Strengthening MSME clusters through infrastructure and capacity building
These initiatives aim to bridge credit gaps, skill shortages, and technology deficits, thereby enhancing MSME resilience and long-term sustainability.

Women-Led MSMEs at the Core of Inclusive Growth
Women entrepreneurship remains a central pillar of the government’s MSME strategy. As of November 30, 2025, a total of 2.86 crore women-led MSMEs have been registered on the Udyam Portal.
These targeted interventions are enabling women entrepreneurs—particularly in micro enterprises and remote geographies—to access finance, markets, skill development, and modern technology, thereby strengthening their participation in India’s formal economy.
